George Stephanopoulos ABC News Analyst
FAREED ZAKARIA JOINS ABC NEWS' "THIS WEEK WITH GEORGE
STEPHANOPOULOS"
Fareed Zakaria, the editor of Newsweek International, has joined ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," it was announced today by David Westin, president of ABC News. Mr. Zakaria, who has appeared frequently on "This Week" in the past, will serve as an analyst for the program and a regular member of the roundtable. He will also appear as an analyst on other ABC News programs."Fareed Zakaria brings a keen intellect and fresh perspective to every issue he addresses. He has already become an important voice on Sunday mornings, and all of us at ABC News look forward to working more closely with him, both on 'This Week' and on all our programs," said David Westin. Mr. Zakaria joins ABC News correspondent Michel Martin and ABC News analyst George Will on the roundtable. He is expected to appear on "This Week" at least twice a month. Mr. Zakaria, who has been the editor of Newsweek International since October 2000, also writes a regular column for Newsweek, which appears occasionally in The Washington Post. Prior to joining Newsweek, Mr. Zakaria was managing editor of Foreign Affairs, the influential journal of international politics and economics. He has written for a variety of publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker. Mr. Zakaria has received several awards for his writings, including the Overseas Press Club Award, the National Press Club's Edwin Hood Award and the Deadline Club Award for Best Columnist. He has twice been nominated for the National Magazine Award. In December 1999 Esquire magazine named him "one of the 21 most important people of the 21st Century." Mr. Zakaria is the author of the forthcoming book "The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad" (W.W. Norton, April 2003). He has also written "From Wealth to Power: The Unusual Origins of America's World Role" and edited "The American Encounter: The United States and the Making of the Modern World." He holds a BA from Yale University and a Ph.D in Political Science from Harvard University. Need to write?
