This Week photo "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" offers a complete hard newscast, lively discussions and debates on a wide range of issues, interviews and commentary.

News interviews are at the center of "This Week," and the broadcast regularly attracts the week's most important guests -- government leaders, heads of state, and administration officials. "This Week's" interviews put in unique perspective the news of the previous week and often set the stage for what's to come in the week ahead.

George Stephanopoulos was named anchor of the ABC News Sunday morning program "This Week." Mr. Stephanopoulos has previously served as an analyst and correspondent with ABC News since 1997 and will began anchoring the program September 15, 2002."

"As the torch at 'This Week' is passed to George Stephanopoulos, I could not have more confidence in his abilities to lead the program forward. In his more than five years at ABC News covering national and international stories, George has demonstrated a keen understanding of the issues and a superb ability to communicate to an audience," said ABC News President, David Westin. "Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts have made so many valuable contributions to 'This Week' and to ABC News as a whole for so many years. Never was their knowledge and experience more evident than in their coverage of the unprecedented events of the last year. I am very pleased that each will continue to be play important roles at ABC News."

Ms. Roberts and Mr. Donaldson were named co-anchors of "This Week" in November, 1996, following David Brinkley's decision to step down from his role as moderator of the Sunday morning program.

Dick Cheney on This Week
Vice President Dick Cheney answered questions about Osama bin Laden, Enron and the economy, Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 during an interview on This Week.

"This Week " provides extensive reporting on all the most significant stories, including the first months of the Bush administration, the spy plane crisis in China, foreign and domestic policy decisions, the activities of Congress and major breaking news stories. The broadcast has an important historical place at ABC News. The program premiered in 1981 as "This Week with David Brinkley." Under Mr. Brinkley's stewardship, the program garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the 1988 Peabody Award and the Joan Barone award for "excellence in Washington-based national affairs/public policy reporting" from the Radio and Television Correspondents Association (RTNDA).
