Barry Bostwick Mayor Randall Winston on Spin City
Barry Bostwick is running the City of New York from the soundstage of "Spin City." This versatile actor is a natural to play the Mayor of New York, having twice portrayed George Washington in his illustrious and prolific career.Bostwick's impressive television repertoire has included starring roles in many highly acclaimed television films and miniseries, including his Golden Globe-winning performance as Lt. "Lady" Aster in ABC's "War and Remembrance." He also starred in the title role in "George Washington," the award-winning miniseries, and its sequel, "George Washington II: The Forging of a Nation." His other miniseries include "Moviola," "Deceptions" and "A Woman of Substance"; three adaptations of Judith Krantz novels, "I'll Take Manhattan," "Scruples" and "Till We Meet Again"; and Danielle Steel's "Once in a Lifetime." Barry's movies for television encompass "Dark Zone," "Murder by Natural Causes," "Betrayed by Innocence," "The Chadwicks," "You Can't Take It With You," "Once Upon a Family," "Red Flag," "Uncommon Love," "Body of Evidence," "Addicted to Love," "Parent Trap III," "Hawaiian Holiday," "The Great Air Race," "Captive" and "Challenger." In addition, he has appeared in several musical specials for PBS, including "Broadway Plays Washington," "The Best of Broadway," "In Performance at the White House," "Irving Berlin's 100th Birthday Celebration at Carnegie Hall"; and an adaptation of the Broadway hit, "Working." He was a host of "Saturday Night Live," and performed with Carol Burnett in her special, "Men, Movies and Carol." Bostwick made his professional stage debut while a sophomore at San Diego's U.S.I.U. School of Performing Arts in "Take Her, She's Mine," with Walter Pidgeon. He attended NYU's Graduate School of the Arts and made his Broadway debut in the title role of Sean O'Casey's "Cock-a-Doodle-Dandy." He has been in numerous productions, including the American premiere of Jean Genet's "The Screens"; and created the role of Danny Zuko in "Grease," for which he earned his first Tony nomination. He received his second nomination for his portrayal of Joey in "They Knew What They Wanted" in 1975, and won the Award in 1978 for his performance as "The Robber Bridegroom." Following that, he starred in a revival of "She Loves Me," and opened to standing ovations in the New York City Opera Production of "L'Histoire du Soldat." In 1981, he played the Pirate King in Joseph Papp's "The Pirates of Penzance" in Los Angeles and later in Toronto; and returned to Broadway in 1991 to star in "Nick and Nora." His film credits include "Spy Hard," "Weekend at Bernie's 2," "800 Leagues Down the Amazon," Stanley Donen's "Movie, Movie," and playing Brad Majors in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Barry Bostwick and his wife, Sherri, have two children, Brian and Chelsea, and reside in New York.
