Kevin Newman Former co-host of Good Morning America
Kevin Newman began as co-anchor of Good Morning America in May, 1998. He has left GMA to pursue other reporting work with ABC News. Newman joined ABC News in 1994. Before becoming news anchor at Good Morning America, he served as a contributing correspondent for World News Tonight, and he co-hosted Good Morning America Sunday with Willow Bay. Previously, he was the co-anchor for ABC News World News Now and World News This Morning.Mr. Newman, 37, has reported in such diverse locations as Washington, London, the U.K., Israel, Germany and Poland. He has interviewed notable figures including Nobel Peace Prize recipient Bishop Tutu and Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams. Mr. Newman has also covered two of the nation's natural disasters -- the San Francisco earthquake and Hurricane Hugo. Prior to joining ABC News, Mr. Newman spent six years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Canada's largest broadcaster. Most recently, Mr. Newman served for two years as anchor of "Midday," the CBC's daily, hour-long news and interview program. He also was the substitute anchor for "Prime Time" and "The National," the CBC's two major evening news broadcasts, from 1992 until joining ABC News. From 1990 to 1992, Mr. Newman was the CBC's Parliamentary Correspondent with special responsibilities for foreign affairs and defense-related issues. He covered the 1992 referendum on Canada's Constitution, and two National Political Leadership Conventions as a floor reporter. He also covered the Liberal Party victory from Campaign Headquarters for Election 1993. He began his tenure at the CBC as Senior Western Correspondent, where he covered national news stories in Alberta and the Canadian Arctic. From 1986 to 1988, he was Parliamentary Correspondent for CTV, where he covered the Prime Minister's national and international trips, including the Paris G7 Summit and several Washington visits with President Reagan. Prior to that, he was Atlantic Bureau Chief for CTV. Mr. Newman began his broadcasting career in 1980 as a general assignment reporter for Global News, a regional television network in Canada. He later became the network's Parliamentary Correspondent. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario.
