The God Squad on Good Morning America


Rabbi Marc Gellman and Msgr. Thomas Hartman Rabbi Marc Gellman and Msgr. Thomas Hartman joined ABCNEWS Good Morning America as The God Squad in August, 1995. Together, Msgr. Hartman and Rabbi Gellman report periodically on spiritual/religious issues that effect Americans today.

Rabbi Gellman is the rabbi of the Beth Torah Synagogue in Melville, N.Y. With his good friend, Msgr. Hartman, he also hosts The God Squad, an interfaith program on the Faith & Values /VISN cable television network. He has published several articles and books, including Where Does God Live? Answers for Parents and Children (co-authored with Msgr. Hartman) which won the 1991 Christopher Award.

He holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, and has earned a doctorate in Philosophy with a dissertation in Medical Ethics from Northwestern University. Rabbi Gellman has served as the chairman of the Medical Ethics Committee of the UJA/Federation. He has published scholarly articles in the field of Jewish and general medical ethics and also served on the faculty of Northwestern University and Hebrew Union College.

He is involved with various organizations, serving as President of the New York Board of Rabbis and editor of their journal, and is an active member of the World Union For Progressive Judaism.

Monsignor Thomas Hartman is the Director of Radio and Television for the Diocese of Rockville Center. Besides Good Morning America, he has appeared on several radio and television programs including, Imus in the Morning, his national television show The God Squad, co-hosted by Rabbi Gellman, his own Telicare productions, as well as hundreds of short features called A Moment With Father Tom. He also has a national radio show, Journeys Through Rock, which reaches hundreds of stations on the ABC Radio Network.

Father Tom has been recognized for his professional and pastoral work by winning three Emmy Awards, a Christopher Award, a Folio award and numerous ÒMan of the YearÓ citations, and honorary doctorates.

Msgr. Hartman was ordained in 1971, and holds an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and a graduate degree in Theology. In 1970, he received a Master of Divinity degree from Our Lady of Angels Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley in 1979.
